Symposium to examine the development of transoceanic air mail service

Bellefonte, Pa, — August 21, 2014 —Postal historians will present papers on various aspects of the development of transoceanic air mail service during the eighth Postal History Symposium, to be held at the American Philatelic Center, Bellefonte, Pa., Sept. 12–14, 2014. Produced jointly by the American Philatelic Research Library, the American Philatelic Society, and the Smithsonian National Postal Museum, the three-day event brings postal historians, collectors, scholars, and the interested public together to discuss and present research that integrates philately or the history of postal operations into the broader context of world history.

The symposium will include presentations on trans-Atlantic and trans-Pacific air mail as well as the effect of World War II on the development of air mail. Saturday evening will feature a banquet with a keynote speech by Jon Krupnick, the author of Pan American’s Pacific Pioneers and Pan American’s Pacific Pioneers: The Rest of the Story.

Aerophilately 2014, an all-air mail philatelic exhibition with FIP recognition and worldwide participation hosted by the American Air Mail Society, will be held in conjunction with the symposium. Over the course of three days, attendees will have ample opportunities to hear the symposium presentations, talk with the presenters, and enjoy the exhibits, dealer bourse, and talks of Aerophilately 2014.

Details about the symposium and registration information are available on the Web at http://stamps.org/Postal-History-Symposium.
