Winning Exhibits at APS AmeriStamp Expo
Attendees of the American Philatelic Society’s winter stamp show, AmeriStamp Expo 2011, held February 11–13 in Charleston, South Carolina, were treated to a spectacular array of exhibits.
Van Koppersmith won the Single Frame Champion of Champions Award for his showing of “Mobile, Alabama CSA Provisional Issue.” Koppersmith’s entry was judged the best of the twenty-seven Grand award winning single-frame exhibits that had been shown at World Series of Philately shows throughout the United States in 2010.
The Most Popular Champion of Champions award went to “CSA Postal History Through the Generals’ Mail” shown by Brian, Maria, and Alexander Green.
The AmeriStamp Expo Single-Frame Grand Award went to “Shahpura — A Newly Discovered Stamp Issuing Indian Princely State” by Sandeep Jaiswal, which also received the American Philatelic Society Research Medal. Three Single-Frame Reserve Grand Awards and Gold medals were presented to: “Alabama Territory Postal History 1817–1819” by Van Koppersmith; “The First Coil Stamp of the World,” which also won the American Association of Philatelic Exhibitors Award of Excellence, by Henry Marquez; and “Switzerland-to-United States Mail Rates 1862–1875” by Harlan F. Stone.
The Best Illustrated Award and a Gold medal were won by “3¢ Byrd on First Day Covers” by Alan Warren.
Honors for Best Postcard, Universal Ship Cancellation Society award, and a Gold went to “Life in the United States Navy, 1900–1920” by Robert D. Rawlins.
The Youth Grand and a Gold medal went to “Building a Nation, One State at a Time” by Adam Mangold, which also won the American Association of Philatelic Exhibitors Youth Grand.
AmeriStamp Expo also hosted Single-Frame Team Competition sponsored by the American Association of Philatelic Exhibitors. In this year’s competition, eight teams of five members each offered five single-frame exhibits in competition with the remaining teams, with the winners determined by the collective scores of the team’s exhibits. This year’s winner was the Collectors Club of San Francisco, a team made up of William P. Barlow, Sandeep Jaiswal, George T. Krieger, Henry Marquez, and Behruz Nassre.
The American Association of Philatelic Exhibitors sponsored the special AmeriStamp Expo 2011 awards. The Most Popular Award was sponsored by the National Stamp Dealers Organization.

The next Single-Frame and Most Popular Champion of Champions competitions will be held at APS AmeriStamp Expo in Atlanta, Georgia, on January 27–29, 2012.
