Winning Exhibits at APS AmeriStamp/Southeastern Stamp Expo

Attendees of the American Philatelic Society’s winter stamp show, AmeriStamp/Southeastern Stamp Expo 2012, held January 27–29 in Atlanta, Georgia, were treated to a spectacular array of exhibits.

Henry Marquez won the Single-Frame Champion of Champions Award for his showing of “The First Coil Stamp of the World.” Marquez’s entry was judged the best of the single-frame exhibits that had been shown at national shows throughout the United States and Canada in 2011.

The Most Popular Champion of Champions award went to “The Eagle Has Landed,” shown by Charles J. O'Brien III.

The AmeriStamp Expo Single-Frame Grand Award went to “Rajpeepla” by Sandeep Jaiswal. This exhibit also received the India Study Circle Award. Two Single-Frame Reserve Grand Awards and Gold medals were presented to: “Ceylon Too Late Markings” (which also won the Auxiliary Markings Club Award) by Kathryn Johnson and “Telegraphy in the Confederate States of America” (which also won the American Association of Philatelic Exhibitors Creativity Award) by George J. Kramer.

James Peter Gough won the Multi-frame Grand Award for “The UPU and Its Impact on Global Postal Services.” His exhibit also won the American Philatelic Society Research Medal, Postal History Society, Inc. Award, and Smithsonian National Postal Museum Award.

The Multi-frame Reserve Grand and a Gold Award went to “Washington & Franklin Coils — Rotary Press Issues 1914–1922, Production and Usages” shown by Gregory Shoults. It also won the American Philatelic Society 1900–1940 Medal of Excellence and the United States Stamp Society Statue of Freedom Award.

The Best Illustrated Exhibit Award and a Gold medal were won by “The Eagle Has Landed” by Charles J. O'Brien III. The exhibit also won the American First Day Cover Society Award and the American Philatelic Society Post 1980 Medal of Excellence.

Honors for Best Postcard award and a Gold medal went to “Toll Gates and Houses — Their Progression on Postcards” by William R. Schultz.

The Best Thematic award and a Gold medal went to “The Magical World of Harry Potter” by Van Siegling, which also won the American Topical Association First Award.

The Southeast Federation of Stamp Clubs sponsored the Multi-Frame Grand and Reserve Grand awards. The Most Popular award for the open competition was sponsored by the National Stamp Dealers Association. The American Association of Philatelic Exhibitors sponsored the Single-Frame Grand, two Single-Frame Reserve Grand awards, and the remaining special show awards.

The next Single-Frame and Most Popular Champion of Champions competitions will be held at APS AmeriStamp Expo in Louisville, Kentucky, on January 18–20, 2013.
